The modern web is outstanding at engineering distraction. Algorithmic feeds, notification badges, and endless scroll — they are all optimized for time-on-screen, not comprehension. Reader is built with the opposite goal: to protect your attention and make deep reading a genuine pleasure.
Why Reader Was Built
I was tired of cluttered, overwhelming news feeds. I wanted an app that felt like a beautifully bound book, not a social media dashboard. Reader was designed from the ground up to create a serene, distraction-free environment where consuming your favorite content feels like a joy rather than a chore.
Design Philosophy
Reader’s aesthetic is centered on warmth, calm, and restraint:
- Bespoke color palette — Clay, Mist Blue, and Sage tones set against a warm paper-like background (
#FFFCF5) - Elegant typography — Clean, readable typefaces with generous spacing and clear hierarchy
- Fluid micro-animations — Subtle opacity transitions, smooth navigation, and tactile interactions that feel alive without being distracting
- Rounded cards and soft shadows — A UI that feels physical, personal, and premium
